Studio Technician

Maine Clay Collaborative is hiring a part time Studio Technician to support daily studio operations.

The Studio Technician loads and unloads kilns, mixes glazes, processes clay reclaim, and works directly with management to ensure a clean, safe, and organized working environment. This person also provides support to students and members, as needed, during open studio hours.

About Maine Clay Collaborative
Opening in Fall 2024, Maine Clay Collaborative is a community-focused clay studio located in the Bayside neighborhood of Portland, Maine, offering classes, membership, and clay for sale.

Essential job functions

  • Supports core studio activities including, but not limited to: un/loading kilns, mixing glaze, reclaiming clay, cleaning

  • Serves as a resource to students, members, and the general public regarding the studio and its equipment

  • Monitors studio equipment and activity, escalating problems or issues as needed

  • Assists in processing clay orders

  • Assists with event preparation and execution

  • Fosters a welcoming and kind atmosphere

Supervisory responsibility
None.

Education and experience

  • Prior experience working in a pottery studio is required.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, uses sound judgment, and remains flexible as demands and priorities change

  • Demonstrates knowledge of studio equipment operation and of materials and techniques used in ceramics processes and practices

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people and ages

  • Ability to work well independently, as well as collaboratively

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment

Working conditions

  • Must be able to move and be stationary on concrete floors for extended periods

  • Must be able to regularly and frequently move weights of 50 lbs

  • Must be able to work a regular schedule of 10-20 hour per week, including some nights and weekends
